Do you need an amp if you hook up subwoofers in your car?
How to Install a Car Amp Installing car audio amplifiers is one of the trickiest things a newbie car audio installer can attempt. Car amp installation requires that all sorts of panels be removed and that various wires be run all over the car. Installing car audio amplifiers is a step by step process which I have outlined here. If you have any questions please contact me by clicking here. Please do not attempt a car amp installation if you are not comfortable with the process. Leave it to a professional.

Then run power to your switch and ground it. Put an inline fuse on your data cable if you want. DuzzleKid ok yea, thats prolly where i messed up at. A-Ray Why would you need power to the switch? What you did the first time should have worked. Basically the switch runs inline with the data wire from the deck to the amp.
Jan 15, · And was planning on hooking them to my amp in my car. So everytime my sub hit, the lights lit up. My problem is that the amp is putting out watts to each sub. watts total.
Are you sure that you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. You have gotten really good ansewer’s. If you will note every one mentioned a fuse. They are so right!! The only thing I could add to those great ansewrs is to use two fuse’s. One for the stereo it should be 15 to 20 amp depending on the amprage of the stereo. One for the amplifier it should be at least 30 amp. Be sure to use a little heavier gauge wire on the amplifier because it will draw more amps.
Always connect the positive lead first red wire the negative second black wire to disconnect go in reverse. This helps to reduce a large spark on contact that could cause the gases that develop around the battery to ignite especialy in an area that is not well ventilated!! You can buy a small cheap trickle charger at auto zone or wal-mart to keep you’r battery chaged.
If you have speakers already connected to your stereo, fully disconnect them. Active crossover units are larger than passive ones and need to be mounted in a stable location, ideally near your amplifiers. Using the appropriate cables, wire your crossover into the receiver or preamp, with the wires coming out of the receiver going into the “in” terminals on the crossover.
If you need more amp hours, you can wire several batteries together in a parallel configuration. This means you hook the positive post of the first battery to the positive post of the second, and the positive post of the third, and so on and the negative posts in the same way.
Wall outlets provide volt AC power, but amplifiers require volt DC power. You’ll have to do a little extra wiring, but the problem is not insurmountable. Look up the input power specifications for your amplifier, using the manual or the manufacturer’s website. Find the specification for current draw in amperes. Purchase an AC to DC power inverter. Make sure the inverter can produce a volt DC output at the specified amperage rating.
Cut a length of gauge red wire, a length of gauge black wire and a length of gauge wire, each long enough to reach from the amplifier to the inverter. Loosen the REM terminal of the amplifier with a screwdriver. Slide the ends of your wires into the loosened terminals and tighten down to clamp the wires. Loosen the terminals of the inverter.
Using your Android phone with your car stereo (How To)
A stereo system is a central part of most home theaters. Purists gush about the sound they can get from their stereo receivers and speakers. Consistent advancements in the music industry have made it possible to connect other playback devices besides just a CD player. MP3 players have established themselves as an especially practical option. An MP3 player offers room to store hundreds or thousands of music titles in a tiny space.
If you’re having a party at home, it’s possible for any guest in the room to play his or her own music at the drop of a hat.
The mixer output can connect directly to the powered speaker, so there are less cables required. Note: Speakers that do not have a built-in power amplifier but require a stand-alone amp are called “passive speakers”. To build a PA system as easily and simply as possible, use either a powered mixer or powered speakers, which require fewer connections.
A car battery gives 12 volts, so does your PSU. If your amp uses more than around watts you’ll want to use multiple molex connectors, because a single gauge wire might not be able to hold all the charge needed for the entire amp, causing it to heat up and possibly melt. There is a method to the madness; if you unplug all your drives and your video card, you should be able trace all the wires back to 2 or 3 bunches unless you have a modular PSU, in which I’m not sure how this would work , you’ll want to connect the amp to as many bunches as you can.
This way you’re effectively dividing the charge on each wire and sometimes making it easier on your PSU , if it works correctly. If you do two or more connectors on a particular bunch, your not gaining much because the charge will still have to go through the single wires that come out of the PSU, which is what you’re trying to avoid in the first place. Remove your side panel unless your using an independent PSU Step 2: Make sure that there’s just bare wire at the end of all of the wires coming from your amp.
Grab a Molex connector, you want the male end. Connect them to The Amp. I’m not sure whether the – on the speakers really needs to be connected to the – on The Amp, but do it just to be safe my speakers just have 2 nondescript wires, and they work fine. You may need to make them longer too.

While Chevy Volt owners will be able to get away with charging their cars off of a standard V wall outlet, Nissan LEAF customers will only be able to buy a LEAF if they’ve either completed the installation of a home charging unit from Nissan’s exclusive contractor, AeroVironment, or signed a waiver with Nissan certifying that they’ve installed their own charging equipment.
The difference comes down to the size of the battery pack. Given that the LEAF is really the only mass-market car in need of installation of a Level II home charger until about , the demand for home charging units from other companies besides AeroVironment will likely be low until then, unless a significant amount of early adopters choose to organize the installation of their own chargers. Yet that hasn’t stopped a handful of companies from jumping headlong into the world of charging stations. Early on, AeroVironment was really the only company that had devoted itself to developing and building Level II home charging units More than anything else, this probably played a big role in why they got the contract from Nissan to conduct all of the early adopter installations.
Car Audio Amplifier Troubleshooting. A question often asked is how to troubleshoot a car audio amplifier that is not working. This is different than an amplifier that is in protection mode but it is related. If you believe you have everything connected properly but the amp doesn’t turn on, or if there is no output, these steps should help you track down the problem.
Well to start you well need somethings. In it should include a set of RCAs for sound. A ground wire with fitings which is to connect to your vehicles chasis which is anyplace in your vehicle not to far from the designated place that you choose to put your amp you can you usually ground off of solid metal but not over heavly painted areas unless you plan to do some sanding. Also a 12V constant which is going to connect strait to the positive side of your battery in the vehicle.
This wire will come with about a 15 or 30 amp in line. This wire will be a thick wire Red in color. You will only need one dont let anyone tell you need more than one its called a PAC converter or a line level converter. With that said your set to start the install. It important you do have a few other tools to help the job go smooth. A12v tester or meter if you dont have on you can pick one up virtually anywere. Cremping Tools and end to end connections for your wiring you are going to be doing at the back of the radio when tying your line converter into your factory radio.
The line level converter once again is used to bring your high level frequency to a low level sorce then you will go out of the converter with your RCA’s strait to the amp to give your amp the sound souce it will need to run the sub. Also some PAC converters have an adjutable gain inside them you want to adjust that gain not to high but high enough for your amp to recieve a good strong signal from the radio.
Low pass frequency setting and so forth.
One-Wire Alternators: Are They Better Or Just Easier To Hook up?
How do you hook up a new car stereo? Well it helps if you have a repair manual for your car so that you can reference the wiring schematic for the stereo connections it will eliminate a lot of guess work. Using a multimeter find a wire in the connector in the dash that was formerly on the stock radio that has 12 vol…ts when the key is off and this will be your Batt. Now with the key on find a second wire with 12 volts and this will be your Ign.
Apr 26, · Best Answer: you run an ga wire to the + of the battery hook it to the amp then hook up a ground wire ga and hook it to a solid ground, off he back of your deck there should be a blue wire thats a remote wire run that to the amp and hook it up it will turn your amp on and off whin you turn your car on and off so you don’t kill the battery hope you have fun with itStatus: Resolved.
And a big part of that information is our music collection. It most probably occupies the biggest part of the SD card on our smartphone, and we would like to listen to it anywhere and anytime. And a part of our day where we would want to listen to our music is when we drive in our cars, going from place to place, but also in our home, when we like to plug in our smartphones to the audio system and start relaxing.
There are a few options that work with your existing audio system, the old fashioned one, with just a few modifications. Of course, newer models of car stereos or home audio systems already have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity and can be connected to many devices such as smartphones and tablets. Depending on which device you want to connect your smartphone, there are a few options available.
Newer models, sometimes called smart radios now have this feature integrated. From here, the process is very simple. Just turn on the Bluetooth in the car radio and search for it from your device. You will have to pair the devices, and in the majority of stereos, the pairing PIN code is written in the manual. They connect via audio cable to the stereo and via Bluetooth to the smartphone.
How to Hook Up a Subwoofer System to a Car’s Stock Stereo
First, you must find a functioning car to use for the jump-start. Make sure that both car owners are comfortable opening the hood and identifying the battery and battery terminals. Jumper cables are the most popular tool used to jump start cars because they are inexpensive and easy to store.
Jun 17, · The amp gauge needs to see full amperage from the alternator so the wire runs from alt. thru amp gauge to the battery or starter post. Add no wires between the amp gauge and alt that draw current or the guage will not show correct amperage.
So what will we need to do this? But I doubt any of you guys will be using an amp that big. Walmart sells amplifier kits as do some other stores. The kits tell you how many watts they can handle. Add Tip Ask Question Step 2: Choosing an Amp and Speaker This can be a tricky step. You want to choose a speaker and amp that put out the most power, without blowing each other. What you want is the RMS of both the subwoofer speaker and the amplifier to be as close as possible.
The RMS is the amount of power a speaker can continuously have sent to it without going bad. The RMS is also the amount of power the amplifier can continuously put out without over heating. When looking at speakers and amplifiers, do not look at the peak power.
