The Panama American ( March 19, 1951 )
If you have been following the reviews in the national papers, it is established early on that the novel kicks off fairly early with a woman Tam — short for Tamara getting fogged in at Gander Airport in Newfoundland for 3 days. She is somewhat astonished by the massive mural in the passenger lounge and this stirs up various associations to her past. I’ll get to this shortly, particularly the fact that in the end the novel is barely about Tam and far more about two brothers with one of whom Tam is in a fairly unsatisfying love affair but even the real-life painter of the mural, Canadian artist Kenneth Lochhead. Still, this set me pondering about novels about airports. As far as I know there are only a very few books set entirely in airports, though air travel itself can play a prominent role in any number of novels. In terms of the ones I am aware of, ostensibly the closest is Rana Dasgupta’s Tokyo Cancelled, which is about a number of travelers stuck in a remote airport trying to reach Narita Airport, which has been snowed in. I had extremely high hopes for Dasgupta’s novel or rather collection of tales, but ultimately found it quite disappointing.

The client response I have had even after coming back from the show has reinforced my belief that the customer is looking for authenticity and a direct dialogue with the craftsperson and this is one of the answers to the future of a true luxury shopping experience. Carla Fernandez, from Mexico and also a first time participant, said that she was very surprised to encounter a spiritual experience sort of a boot camp of the positive, the possible and the future where sharing is the currency.
She has been to many shows around the world just selling her products but this is the only time where she has felt a real support, a real sense of community. The show reaffirmed her belief that the future is handmade, that this is a possible and relevant future that can be a sustainable thriving business. She also said she encountered the real America, one that favors diversity and culture and a very different one from the one in the news.
Porfirio Gutierrez from Oaxaca who participated in and says this is a unique show because it caters to people who know and appreciate folk art.

The exhibition is divided into five periods: The exhibition also presents a number of documents, in particular the periodicals that she contributed to during her travels between Hungary, France, Spain and Mexico.

The British grime artist worked with the sportswear giant on a fresh look for their classic Air Max 97 model, sourcing inspiration from his London council estate upbringing, his Nigerian heritage and from a recent trip to Marrakesh. Talking about the Moroccan city, Skepta gushed over its pastel colors, geometric architecture, lively taxis, and the magical worlds hidden deep in the souqs. Local street style merged with traditional clothing was a huge influence in his design decisions as well: The collection explores the personalities of master musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and topmodel Sayoko Yamaguchi for Spring Summer menswear and Womenswear respectively.
A beautiful look at their world, their time, their influences to Kenzo. His individualism hinting to classic English tailoring mixed with Japanese 50s baseball culture is the main inspiration for Leon and Lim. It is a beautiful collection, eclectic in its preppy style and avant-garde attitude. The extremely high-waisted trousers are matched with graphic tees printed with original images by Sakamoto himself. For the Womenswear collection Leon and Lim channelled Sayoko Yamaguchi personality in the clashing of stripes, prints, coloured and bold sequined look: Frills, feminine pieces next to more graphic ones.
The accessories are a striking element. Reminiscent of traditional Japanese accessories, they are reworked with pop colour, neon materials or stripes.

Focusing on the legacies of British imperialism in the South Pacific, the works presented in this exhibition offer a counterpoint to historical narratives that have emerged within colonial modes of scientific categorisation. The voyage of the HMS Endeavour from — , led by the then little known Lieutenant James Cook with botanist Joseph Banks, collected a staggering quantity of plant life from across the Asia Pacific — approximately 30, specimens from Australia and New Zealand alone, representing over 3, species, of which 1, were wholly new to science.

To be more specific, it is an intense psychological drama: Is your film based in some fashion on a real situation? In a way, yes. I was thinking more along the lines of a court case that may have been in the news in Romania. We were inspired by the news because accidents like this do happen in Romania. So we put it together with this pathological mother-son story. How did you and Razvan decide on that approach?
We decided on the social thing, the corruption, because we needed some extraordinary thing to happen to speed up the relationship. Because the film is taking place over five or six days, that was the point.

My first job in the art world was at the Tate Gallery in London, as a new member of a small team whose task was to stand in front of the works on display and explain them to the public. I soon learned that four questions were asked over and over again: What are the key features in a Picasso, a Rembrandt, a Raphael, a Turner? What is the story? What is the Nativity?

No other tactic has a greater failure rate in creating stable marriages and families than Western-style dating, a method that only excels in finding short-term sexual partners. Before writing off dating completely, we have to first define what a relationship success story looks like. How many people do you know who have been happily married for at least ten years? Now how many people do you know who have not been married for ten years and who likely have no hope for that outcome in the next decade?
Unless you are a part of a religious community, I predict that you know far more people who have absolutely nothing to show for their dozens or hundreds of dates and hookups. If dating was an experimental drug intended to treat cancer, the experiment would stop halfway through because of how disastrous it is on the patient.
